CROSSING CLUJ – THE SUCCESS STORY OF AN EASTERN EUROPEAN CITY ON THE CONTEMPORARY ART MARKET

November 09, 2012 17.00

Panel discussion

The 2012 edition of Art Market Budapest draws particular attention to and builds a complex program around the internationally renowned contemporary art scene of the Transylvanian city of Cluj, an applicant for the title of European Cultural Capital. The panel discussion explores the contemporary art scene of Cluj, including the variety of contemporary artistic directions that are present in the city, and also seeks to explore the roots that these contemporary artists reach back to. Topics such as the background of the international achievements of the artists, the phenomenon of the Cluj School, the possible (non-)existence of this specific trend, the place of these artists in the global contemporary art world, and the promotional strategies that underlie their international recognition will be discussed.
